"Lung cancer is a prevalent disease due to the long history of smoking in our society.".- Maine Cancer Foundation

Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer among both men and women of all ethnic backgrounds. Although there are other causes, cigarette smoking is the undisputed leading cause. We know that smoking is bad, so why do we smoke?

Addiction. I've had my up and down hill battles with smoking, and I've seen what it can do to someone you care about. The best advice I can give to anyone is, "never start".

To fight lung cancer we need to start by decreasing the number of smokers and increasing its awareness and consequences in our society... which I understand, is easier said then done, but I believe we have started.

"Breathe" is the design for Lung Cancer Awareness. It is represented by a white hand purifying black lungs. It was inspired by a dear friend that lost the battle to the disease.

25% of "Breathe" sales are donated to the Maine Cancer Foundation.

FACTS (U.S.)

  • Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States among every ethnic group... 1 in every 3 cancer deaths. It will kill more people than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, and melanoma cancers... combined.

  • Over 60% of new cases are never smokers or former smokers, and one in five women and one in twelve men diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked.

  • There are two main types of Lung Cancer: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and Small cell lung cancer (SCLC).

NSCLC accounts for about 80% of lung cancers. There are different types of NSCLC, such as:

    * The most common type of NSCLC is Squamous cell carcinoma. It forms in the lining of the bronchial tubes and is the most common type of Lung Cancer in men.

    * Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer in women and people who have not smoked. This cancer is found in the glands of the lungs that produce mucus.

SCLC accounts for about 20% of all lung cancers. Although the cells are small, they multiply quickly and form large tumors that can spread throughout the body. Smoking is almost always the cause of SCLC.
